The Backfill Eliminator™

Tanning Ledge Backfill Eliminator™ a Major Advantage for Fiberglass Pool Installers

Another leading edge innovation from fiberglass pool manufacturer, Thursday Pools

FORTVILLE, Ind.– Tanning ledges are increasingly in demand in fiberglass pools. Pool owners love the luxury of being able to bask in the sun while cooling their heels in the water on a large, built-in tanning ledge. However, these ledges have created a major challenge for fiberglass pool installers, as they have struggled to find ways to support the ledges with backfill.

Traditionally, installers have used crushed stone or flowable fill. Both methods are costly, painstaking and time-consuming, and require installers to work in extremely cramped conditions. Crushed stone is difficult to pack underneath the pool, and flowable fill requires specialized skill and equipment. If backfill is not properly completed, the tanning ledge can, at the least, feel hollow as it is stepped on. With both methods, the backfill can also shift and settle over time, creating a void.

To solve this problem, Thursday Pools has created the patent-pending Backfill Eliminatora specially fabricated structure integrated into the bottom of the pool, allowing for sturdy and level installation. The structure also permits free flow of groundwater, eliminating the possibility of stagnant water accumulating under the pool or excess groundwater lifting the pool. An added benefit is an access point from which installers can reach plumbing.

The Backfill Eliminator works in tandem with Thursday Pools’ patented Geo-Anchor Fiberglass Pool Walls, which are built-in extensions that allow fiberglass pools to be anchored to the earth during installation.

“We will never stop working to improve the fiberglass pool experience, for dealers, installers and consumers alike,” said Ed Vondell, Chief Operating Officer at Thursday Pools. “This innovation will save installers time, money and trouble and will result in a better experience for pool owners for years to come.”
