How Did We Choose the Name “Thursday Pools”?

We Chose the name Thursday Pools because it’s fun, easy to remember and, most importantly, because Thursday is the new Friday!

fiberglass poolsBack in the early 2000s, the company now known as Thursday Pools was just a twinkle in our eyes. Our owner and founder Bill Khamis had been tinkering with fiberglass since he was a kid … making model trains, planes and helicopters. Before he even finished college, he had started a fiberglass manufacturing business.

Inspiration struck when Bill ordered a fiberglass pool for his home. When the fiberglass pool shell was delivered, he looked at it and immediately started envisioning ways he would make it differently and better. He created his own mold and realized there was a viable business opportunity at hand.

Bill looked up his buddy Ed Vondell, with whom he had been friends in college. He told Ed he wanted to start a fiberglass inground pool manufacturing company with him. Ed was in, and a partnership was born.

What’s in a name?

So now, the task at hand was to name the new company. Ed and Bill brought in a team of marketing experts. They knew they wanted a name that was easy to remember and made people feel good. And, of course, they needed something with an available domain name.

After lots of brainstorming, it was actually Bill’s wife Liz who came up with the name Thursday Pools. Why? Because when you own a fiberglass pool, you can’t wait for the weekend to enjoy it … you want the weekend to start early! Everyone loved the idea, and it stuck.

We want our customers to equate the name Thursday Pools to our commitment to growth, innovation and excellence.

Thursday Pools started out as a 40,000 square-foot facility, manufacturing 3 different fiberglass pool designs. As 2020 approaches, we’ve expanded our facility to 100,000 square feet, more than 2 times its original size, and we’re producing over 20 different fiberglass pool designs (and counting!) We’ve recently doubled our pool storage capacity and created dedicated production spaces for our ever-growing list of innovations, including the world’s first fiberglass beach entry pools (Patent US 10,358,837 and 10,472,839) and our soon-to-be-released, world’s first sunken living area fiberglass pools. We’ve also added some amazing members to our team along the way, all of whom are contributing to the good name of Thursday Pools.

Another Thursday Pools Expansion Reflects Their Relentless Commitment to Quality, Innovation and Safety

The 40,000-square foot expansion means shorter turn-around times, improved employee safety, even better quality control and room to keep creating amazing innovations and durable fiberglass pools!

Indiana’s Thursday Pools manufactures the world’s best and most durable fiberglass pools, and they just keep finding ways to get better. They’re relentlessly committed to quality, safety and innovation. They are in the process of completing a 40,000-square foot expansion of their fiberglass pool manufacturing facility which will increase their total facility space to 100,000-square feet. The expansion increases production, storage and employment capacities and will help Thursday Pools create an even safer working environment.

“We started out with 20,000 square feet. We just added 40,000 square feet onto our facility two years ago, but we’re still growing,” said Bill Khamis, Thursday Pools CFO. “We’ve made a commitment to continual improvement through our ISO 9001 certification, and this expansion is the next step to advance and improve our business, on many levels.”

Faster turn-around times

Thursday Pools’ business is rapidly expanding. With more than double the total facility space, their team will be able to manufacture more fiberglass pool shells, resulting in shorter lead times during high season. So, when you’re ready to buy YOUR inground fiberglass pool, you’ll be in the swim sooner!

Local job creation

Thursday Pools cares about their community, and they’re excited to bring more jobs to Hancock County. They truly believe that their employees are family, and they’re delighted that their family now has room to grow.

Safety is paramount

Loading a fiberglass pool shell onto a truck is no small feat. A fiberglass pool shell weighs between 1200 and 4200 pounds, depending on the size of the pool. Having a dedicated area for fiberglass pool shell loading means that employees will be safer during the loading process because there will not be any other equipment or production happening in the same space.

More room to keep inventing

The team at Thursday Pools never stops thinking about ways to improve the fiberglass pool experience. The expanded facility will allow them to have dedicated manufacturing areas for two amazing Thursday Pools fiberglass inground pool innovations: The Geo-Anchoring Pool System and the Backfill Eliminator®. Both of these innovations have resulted in exclusive, cutting-edge installation processes that make their pools easier to install, with the industry’s best warranties. They’ve also added two new Beach Entry designs, Grace and Sandal (Patent US 10,358,837 and 10,472,839), to their line this year, and they will begin production of their new Sunken Living Room designs in 2020.

An outdoor pool showroom

The facility expansion is not limited to just the interior. It will also include a ½-mile of road leading to a twelve-acre fiberglass pool storage area. This new storage area will facilitate lead times on orders and allow both customers and dealers to view the pool shells in person, as the Thursday Pools team can chauffeur them through the storage area via golf carts. So, if you want to actually have a seat in one of their pool designs, you can pop over to Fortville and check them out!

Still looking good!

The expansion will also look good. Thursday Pools is housed in a beautiful, historic, brick building. The additions to the building will match the original facade to maintain the integrity of the appearance of the building.

“We’re really never going to be satisfied,” concluded Thursday Pools CEO Ed Vondell. “There’s always something we can do better. We’re constantly striving to make fiberglass pools better for pool buyers and to make the Thursday Pools’ experience the very best it can be for our customers, our dealer family and our employee family.”

APSP Pool Seminar Hosted by Thursday Pools®

Fortville, IN. October 23, 2013– On Tuesday, October 15th, Thursday Pools® played host to the Indiana Chapter of APSP’s first members only educational seminar. In an effort to deliver added value to their members, the APSP (Association of Pool and Spa Professionals) decided to hold this free event and Thursday Pools® jumped at the opportunity to be a part of it.

“Because the Fiberglass Pool Industry is still in its infancy in comparison to traditional types of in-ground swimming pools, there is a lot of miss information out there and so any time we get an opportunity to educate and provide people with a positive experience – it’s a win win for us.’” –says Bill Khamis, Owner of Thursday Pools®.

The APSP pool seminar was considered a successful event by the APSP and Thursday Pools®. It was attended by over a dozen members throughout Central Indiana. Both companies hope that this leads the way for a more involved membership base.

The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals is a community of professionals dedicated to promoting the enjoyment and safe use of pools, spas, and hot tubs.  They leverage the collective talent, energy, and expertise of APSP membership to deliver the resources and education that enable APSP members to be stronger, smarter, safer, and therefore more successful. Thursday Pools Continues Investment Into Quality Molds

Coming from the boating industry, we learned a thing or two about perfecting the fit and finish of fiberglass parts.  In order to make the boat deck and hull fit together perfectly we had to have quality molds as strong and rigid as steel, so that is what we used to make our molds.  Thursday Pools adopted this and applied it to our pool molds.

Thursday Pools constructs fiberglass swimming pool molds using all steel substructure.  Our larger molds, such as the Goliath 1641, have 4000 pounds of steel for the substructure.  Steel versus wood makes our molds rigid, strong and dimensionally stable.  Temperature and humidity can cause dimensional instability with wood substructure molds.  This is the reason why Thursday Pools invested the extra money to make the very best quality molds in the industry.  This translates into straight, level and dimensionally precise pools.  Why is this important?  It provides you a pool that can be installed quickly, easily and when it is installed…the pool will look level, straight and fit perfectly with an automatic pool cover and your preferred decking.

Thursday Pools®Textured Surfaces for Fiberglass Pools

We have learned a thing or two throughout the years in the fiberglass manufacturing industry.  Boat building and fabrication of automotive components has been very beneficial for our fiberglass pool manufacturing.  One of the takeaways is our fiberglass texture for pools.  Thursday Pools® uses a proprietary process to produce our fiberglass texture surfaces on each pool.  The steps, seats, tanning areas and safety ledges all have this proprietary surface finish.  This fiberglass texture provides a non-slip surface while at the same time is easy on the skin.  The surface is smooth to the touch but provides an excellent non-slip area to walk on.

Is the technique to produce this surface patented?  No, but it is one of Thursday Pools® trade secrets which differentiates us from other pool manufactures.  With thirty years in the fiberglass industry: marine, automotive and pools, what would you expect?
