How Much Does a Fiberglass Pool Cost in Kentucky?

Thursday Pools fiberglass pools are an affordable, durable, and elegant choice for any backyard in Louisville or the surrounding communities in Kentucky.

If you live in or around Louisville, Kentucky, you’re never short of things to do and places to go. Spring is all about Derby season in the “Ville”, so it’s off to Churchill Downs. And the Bourbon Trail is a must-do when out-of-town guests arrive, any time of year. Downtown, the Speed Art Museum and the gallery in the 21c Museum Hotel offer thought-provoking places to contemplate the works of artists from around the globe. (Not to mention a knock-out brunch at Proof on Main!)

But isn’t it nice sometimes to just stay home and enjoy your own backyard? (Especially when the summer heat and humidity sets in!) Wouldn’t it be amazing to have a staycation with your own beautiful fiberglass inground pool? And though there are definitely factors to consider when it comes to these pools, like fiberglass pool cost, local regulations where you live, etc., there are resources to help you plan. You can create your own, private backyard oasis by choosing a Thursday Pools fiberglass pool for your family. You’ll get a lifetime of low pool maintenance enjoyment and quality family time.

Why choose a fiberglass pool?

  • Fiberglass pools are easier and less expensive to maintain than vinyl or gunite. The crevices in vinyl pool liners and the rough surfaces of gunite pools are havens for algae, which means more time spent on maintenance and more money spent on chemicals. However, the smooth, gel coat surface of a fiberglass pool holds bacteria and algae at bay, which means more time swimming, less time maintaining, and lower chemical use over the life of your pool.
  • Fiberglass pools are more durable than vinyl or gunite. There are no liners to replace, and they never need resurfacing. They’re quick to install, and the smooth, non-skid finish is safe and easy on swimsuits and tender feet. And, if you want to share your pool with the four-legged members of your family, the gel coat finish means they’re also way more pet friendly than either vinyl or gunite pools.
  • Fiberglass pools are highly compatible with Kentucky’s Crider soil. The loamy soil in Kentucky is easy to excavate, which will facilitate your inground swimming pool project. Crider soil also has a high capacity to retain moisture so it can shrink and swell with varying weather conditions. The best quality fiberglass pools are better equipped to deal with the shrink-swell pressure than either vinyl or gunite pools are, particularly with innovations like the Geo-Anchoring Pool system.

What’s the average price of a fiberglass pool, installed?

Fiberglass pool prices vary based on the size of pool you want and where you live. You’ll need to contact a Thursday Pools dealer near you to get a quote on your fiberglass pool project. But if you’re just getting started on your research and want a ballpark price for your own fiberglass pool, you can approximate $1500 per linear foot.

Let’s take a look at how that ballpark formula might apply to some Thursday Pools designs.

Sun Day

Fiberglass Pool CostIf you’re after the graceful curves of a freeform pool, our Sun Day design might be the perfect complement to your backyard. It’s available in three sizes with a maximum length of 39’. The smallest size is 30 feet long by 15 feet wide. At an average cost of $1500 per linear foot, a basic installation might run around $45,060.

Aspen

If you have a large yard and truly want the best of both worlds—both wide-open Fiberglass Pool Costswim space and lots of built-in spots for relaxing—Aspen is the pool for you. With a built-in, 12”-deep tanning ledge, you’ll have the perfect perch to watch over the kiddos while they swim. The Aspen (Design Patent US D851,781 S) is available in three sizes. Let’s check out the largest, which is 40 feet long by 16 feet wide. Applying our formula of an average cost of $1500 per linear foot, a basic installation would be $60,072.

What about a beach entry?

You can turn your Kentucky home into an instant beachfront property with one of Thursday Pools’ fiberglass beach entry pool designs (Patent US 10,472,839). They’re the only truly zero entry fiberglass pools on the market. There are two to choose from. Sandal is a curvy, flirty freeform design, and Grace is a classic rectangular design. Beach entry designs will average $1800 per square Fiberglass Pool Costfoot.

Since we like to “go big or go home” in Kentucky, let’s take a look at what the largest size of the Grace design might cost. It’s 40 feet long by 16 feet wide. Applying our formula of an average cost of $1800 per linear foot, a basic installation would be $72,000.

What does a basic fiberglass pool installation include?

The definition of a basic installation varies from one pool builder to the next. So it’s crucial to inquire about what’s included (and more importantly, what’s not) as you’re collecting bids on your new fiberglass pool. This will help ensure you’re comparing apples to apples.

For example, some pool builders include as standard: lighting, heaters, a set amount of pool decking, and even an automatic pool cover in all their quotes. Others will price these items ala carte. Additionally, there are costs involved in pool installation that may or may not apply to your project, depending on where you live and how accessible your backyard is. You’ll want to inquire about these costs as you’re interviewing prospective builders.

Potentially hidden costs of installing an inground fiberglass pool.

  1. Site Preparation. Site preparation refers to anything that would get in the way of setting the pool in the ground. For example, the removal and/or relocation of under and above-ground utility lines or cables such as gas, phone, sewer, and septic would fall under site preparation, as would moving irrigation systems and downspouts. And once your pool builder starts to dig, any underground “surprises,” such as a layer of rock no one expected to find, could add to your bottom line pricing. (However, this is unlikely in Kentucky, due to the great quality of our soil.) If additional equipment needs to be rented, or the excavation ends up taking several days longer than expected, that expense may well be listed by your pool builder as “additional site preparation”, a cost they will pass onto you. You should ask your pool builder to clarify what factors involved in your pool installation project could potentially cause site preparation issues.

Note: Excavation issues are less like in Kentucky, due to fiberglass pools are highly compatible with Kentucky’s Crider soil.
  2. Access. Your new inground fiberglass pool will be delivered in one piece, which means your pool builder needs clear access to your yard for the pool and necessary construction equipment. Access issues could include trees, brush, or fencing that might need to be moved or removed prior to installation. Your pool builder might also need to build a “temporary driveway” with gravel or protection mats to gain needed access. These costs could also end up on your total bill, so be sure to ask each pool builder to include in the bid what accessibility issues might need to be addressed on your project.
  3. Permits. As with any other building project, permits are required prior to installing an inground swimming pool. Some builders take on that task for you and include the cost in the contract, but some don’t. So during the project’s estimation phase, be sure to ask if they’re taking care of procuring and paying for the permits or if that’s on you. If you’re responsible for obtaining the pool permit, call your local municipality for pool permit prices. There may also be other costs involved, depending on your local ordinances. For example, you may also be required to put up a temporary fence during construction or implement erosion control measures.
  4. Restoration. Heavy construction equipment can cause sidewalks and driveways to crack. Unless otherwise stated in the pool contract, the repairs of your existing driveway and/or the removal of any temporary driveway installed for accessibility to the site will be your responsibility. You’ll also want to think about new and existing landscaping after the project is complete. A “rough grade” is typically part of your pool contract but a “finish grade” is not, and a finish grade is what you need to seed or sod your lawn. You might also need to add topsoil. Large landscaping and hardscaping designs can often cost as much as the pool, so it’s important to have a complete plan and estimated costs ahead of time. Remember, not everything has to be done at once. You can start enjoying your pool right away and add on to your landscaping over the years.
  5. Electrical. An electrician will have to run the wiring for the pool equipment and lights. Few pool builders include electrical in their quotes because they don’t typically have an electrician on their team. If you already know an electrician you trust, you might prefer him or her to do the work to the pool builder’s specs. Your current electrical system may or may not have enough power or space in the breaker box to meet the needs of the pool equipment, so you may need to add a sub-panel or upgrade your electrical system.
  6. Dirt Hauling. When you dig that big hole, you have to put all that dirt somewhere. If you don’t have a spot for it (or don’t know someone who wants it), then you’ll have to pay someone to haul it away. The cost of this will be determined by how many truckloads of dirt there are and how far away the dumpsite is. Your pool contract might specify that only a certain amount of dirt will be hauled away, or it may say that dirt hauling is your responsibility. Unless you have a plan for the dirt, be sure to read your contract closely and ask your pool builder how much dirt will result from the excavation as well as how much of it is up to you to remove.

Kentucky swimming pool regulations.

Some states, like Alabama, leave swimming pool regulations up to individual counties. However, in Kentucky, state-wide laws apply to residential inground pools.

Here’s what you should know:

  • A barrier fence at least 48” high is required around the pool and the maximum allowable gap from the bottom of the fence to the ground is 4”.
  • If the wall of your house serves as one of the four barrier walls, you must have one of the following:
    • An automatic pool safety cover
    • Alarms on any doors with direct access to the pool area with deactivation switches at least 54” above the threshold of the door.
    • In some cases, self-closing, self-latching doors may be accepted but are subject to inspection.

Fencing, alarms, automatic pool covers and other barriers-to-entry are not usually part of your pool contract, so it’s a good idea to get fencing estimates ahead of your pool estimates. (Or, check to see if your existing fence meets the requirements.) Your pool builder will be able to advise you on these matters.

How Much Do Fiberglass Pools Cost in South Carolina?

It’s time for a South Carolina roll call. Myrtle Beach! Columbia! Greenville! Charleston! Wherever you are in South Carolina, the weather makes year-round enjoyment of a backyard pool possible. An inground fiberglass pool is a great investment in the full enjoyment of your home, so where do you start your research? No matter where you are in the Palmetto State, your first question when you’re researching a fiberglass pool is probably, “How much does a fiberglass pool cost in South Carolina?”

Where is the value in a fiberglass pool?

Before jumping into the cost of a fiberglass pool, it’s worth considering why you would have interest in a fiberglass pool. In other words, what makes a fiberglass pool a great value versus gunite and vinyl? Here are a few of the best things about fiberglass pools:

  • Low maintenance. Fiberglass pools are easier to own and maintain versus alternatives like gunite (concrete) and vinyl. The smooth, gel coat surface holds bacteria and algae at bay—meaning you spend less time brushing and use fewer chemicals over the lifetime of owning the pool.
  • Durability and practicality. Fiberglass pools are less prone to degradation than gunite and vinyl. The surface is easy on swimsuits and tender feet. And it’s pet-friendly!
  • Feature-rich. Fiberglass pools offer an array of innovative features like built-in tanning ledges, wrap-around benches and even beach entries—usually built around wide-open swimming space!

What’s the cost of an inground fiberglass pool in South Carolina?

We’ve discussed what makes a fiberglass pool such a great value. So now, let’s talk about cost. Your neighborhood, topography, and other factors may play a role in assigning a dollar value to your pool, but we can ballpark a cost. In South Carolina, you could estimate an inground fiberglass pool at approximately $1,500 per linear foot. If that doesn’t give you a clear enough picture, check out the following Thursday Pools designs and their average cost to install.

Are there any hidden costs in pool installation?

As we always stress, every installation is different. Occasionally things will appear in your installation that a basic ballpark estimate might not have considered. A perfect example of this would be in Richland County, where safety/security fences are required at home pools. A fence may be something you want anyway, but the example illustrates the point that variability exists. Seven examples of potential hidden costs, detailed more thoroughly in this blog, are as follows:

  1. Site Preparation – roots, rocks, irrigation systems, and utilities are just a few of the considerations.
  2. Access – pool installers have trucks, earthmovers, and cranes, and they need access to your backyard.
  3. Permits – municipalities have different permitting and construction site requirements. It’s important to know yours.
  4. Fencing – as we mentioned above, fencing and pool safety covers may be a nice-to-have, or they may be a must-have, per local ordinance.
  5. Restoration – it’s a big construction project, and sometimes that means significant clean-up and restoration.
  6. Electrical – is your backyard wired? Is your pool installer estimating and doing the work themselves or through a subcontractor?
  7. Dirt Hauling – to drop that backyard pool in there, you might be removing the equivalent of a one or two-car garage volume of dirt!

This is a good list to keep handy. Always keep an open line of communication with your dealer so you both are clear on the scope of your installation and the final cost. One thing to note: some work, like restoration or fencing, could be performed as a separate project with its own financing. Creativity in putting together a cost plan can get your pool plan together more quickly with less immediate strain on the pocketbook.

Reap the Health Benefits of Exercise in Your New Fiberglass Pool

Get healthy and have more fun this year in a new fiberglass pool.

If your goals for the new year include getting healthier and more fit, a new inground fiberglass pool might be just the water exercise, swimming exercise, health benefits of swimming, fiberglass pools thing to help you accomplish those goals. Water exercise has loads of health benefits, including weight loss, increased strength and muscle tone, joint pain relief, improved cardiovascular health, reduced stress, and increased fun (which is also very good for you!)

Choose a fiberglass pool that’s designed for water exercise—one that has wide-open swim lanes and is deep enough to accommodate both lap swimming and water aerobics. You’ll be crushing your health and fitness goals before you know it!

Let’s take a look at all the amazing health benefits of swimming exercise:

  1. Weight loss.

According to Prevention magazine, swimming just 30 minutes can burn between 300-400 calories. Compare that to just 100 calories burned for 30 minutes of brisk walking, and it’s easy to see why swimming is a great choice for folks who want to lose weight. (Not to mention the fact that you’re in the pool cooling off instead of sweating during your workout!)

  1. Increased strength and muscle tone.

According to Livestrong.com, swimming laps in an inground pool is a great full-body workout. Swimming works your back and shoulders, as well as major muscle groups in your legs and hips. It’s a great core workout as well, particularly when you’re swimming freestyle or doing the backstroke. And if you aren’t feeling like laps, even treading water helps build muscle and strength because the water offers resistance as you move through it. As you gain strength and endurance, you can add water exercises to get even more results.

  1. Joint pain relief.

Aquatic therapy is an excellent pain management tool for anyone with arthritis, chronic joint pain their backs, knees, hips or necks, or anyone trying to rehabilitate from an injury. An article on PainScience.com suggests that even floating in a swimming pool provides joint pain relief because the water offers relief from gravity, allowing joints and muscles to feel cushioned and safe. Aqua-jogging and other water aerobics reduce inflammation and combine the benefits of reduced joint impact, muscle development and pain relief.

  1. Improved cardiovascular health.

Studies have shown that swimming lowers blood pressure, which in turn, can reduce the chances of heart attacks and strokes. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), regular cardiovascular exercise, like swimming, also lowers “bad” cholesterol levels, which decreases heart attack risk.

  1. Reduced stress.

Harvard Medical School’s online journal addresses how aerobic exercise reduces the body’s stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. Exercise also stimulates the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers and mood elevators, which means you’ll feel better physically and mentally.

  1. Increased fun!

In addition to being a super healthy choice for you, swimming is just plain fun! There’s nothing like the feeling of splashing around in the water, spending quality time with your friends and family and letting the cares of the day fade away. There are tons of games you can play in the pool, and you’ll still get some exercise while you’re having fun! Plus, if you’re having fun while you’re exercising, you’re much more likely to keep doing it. That’s what you call a win-win.

How Much Does a Fiberglass Pool Cost in Alabama?

Thursday Pools fiberglass pools are a unique combination of durability, elegance and affordability.

On average, there are well over 200 sunny days per year in Alabama. With its southern latitudes, the climate is temperate, and a backyard pool can be enjoyed for much of the year. It can be an investment in your health, in your family lifestyle, and in the way you entertain neighbors and friends. If you’re considering the lifetime of fun an inground fiberglass pool can provide, the next logical question is, “how much does a fiberglass pool cost in Alabama?”

Why choose a fiberglass pool for your Alabama home?

Before jumping into the cost of a fiberglass pool, it’s good to talk about value. In other words, what are the features of an inground fiberglass pool that make it worthy of your consideration? If you haven’t looked at the latest fiberglass pools available, you might not be aware of how far they have come in the last decade. Modern fiberglass pools feature stunning color, ease of maintenance, low lifetime maintenance costs, algae resistance, and expansive design options.

An inground fiberglass pool is:

  • Flexible enough for Alabama’s various soil types. Alabama’s soil ranges from clay to sand to “Bama soil,” a dark brown sandy loam which is a mix of clay, sand and silt. When assembled with a Geo-Anchoring Pool System, fiberglass pools are better equipped than other pool types to deal with the shifting temperatures and the contraction-expansion cycles in the soil and groundwater.

  • Easy on feet and clothing. The beautiful gelcoat finish on Thursday Pools’ fiberglass pools not only provides a striking shimmer on the water’s surface, it also provides a durable, non-skid, non-snag finish that’s easy on feet and swimsuits. Perhaps most importantly, it’s pet-friendly too!

  • Unmatched durability. Fiberglass pools require less maintenance and fewer chemicals. They are structurally sound and resistant to the accumulation of algae and other mineral deposits that plague other pool types.

  • Diverse design options. Fiberglass pool manufacturers are innovating. Where just a decade or two before, there were few options for pool designs, the variety of fiberglass pool sizes and shapes available today is much more extensive.

  • Feature-rich. Fiberglass pools, with their diversity of styles and sizes also offer features that homeowners love. Options like zero-entry pools (Patent US 10,358,837 and 10,472,839), tanning ledges, wrap-around benches, swim-outs and bubblers make fiberglass pools feel luxurious and custom.

How much does it cost to install a fiberglass pool in Alabama?

Let’s dig in! Costs will be impacted by geography, local statutes, the amount of site prep necessary, environmental and landscaping work, and the rehabilitation required after installation. A dealer familiar with the local rules and your site can provide a tight quote, but for general guidelines, you can use a figure of $1,500 per linear foot (pool length). For example, if you’re asking “how much does a 12×20 inground pool cost,” then at $1,500 x 20’, your ballpark cost is $30,000. Now, let’s look at some specific Thursday Pools’ pool designs.

Sea Turtle

The Sea Turtle is a small pool that maximizes swim space. Even in a small backyard, you can install a pool with plenty of room to splash around. The Sea Turtle is 19.5 feet long and 9.5 feet wide. At an average cost of $1,500 per linear foot, a basic installation is estimated at $29,250.

Lil Bob

We call it Lil Bob, but it’s plenty big. Lil Bob’s flat bottom makes it great for an active family, and full-length steps and long benches are great for courtside viewing. This design is 27.5 feet long and 13.5 feet wide. With our average cost per linear foot formula, the Lil Bob is estimated to cost around $41,250.

Lil Bob keeps things rolling. See how!

What does a basic fiberglass pool installation include?

What is standard may be driven by market demand, dealer capabilities and factors unique to your state or municipality, so it’s best to find a dealer in your area for details.

Some items you’ll often see in standard quotes include heaters, lighting, a base level of decking, and a pool cover. Additionally, most of these standard options can be upgraded in some fashion, through greater quantity, automation, or other means.

Are fiberglass pools worth it? Are there downsides or hidden costs?

Fiberglass pools are unique in that they are manufactured off-site, brought to your backyard, and then installed. Some requirements to install an inground fiberglass pool are unique to fiberglass pools, and some are true for all pools.

Site Preparation. Before your fiberglass pool shell arrives, there is work to be done in the backyard. Your installer must check for utility lines and accommodate or remove them when considering the installation site. Irrigation, downspouts, and other geological impediments must be noted and considered. Excavation may be included in your install, but depending on the age of your home, the type of construction, and the structure of the site, you might find some elements of site preparation that require extra time and money.

Access. Your pool arrives in one piece. Imagine you’re delivering a grand piano to a high-rise apartment. In some ways, the task is like that. It’s a large piece of furniture delivered to your backyard. Your installation crew needs space to access and move around in the install site. Costs might include the construction of a temporary driveway for equipment or removal of branches or fencing that is in the way.

Permits. As with many building projects, permits may be required before the installation of your pool. It may be a simple matter of filling out paperwork, or it may require on-site inspections. This can add time and costs to the process. Your dealer should know the local ordinances, and you may also want to check on any HOA guidelines to which you may be subject.

Fencing. Fencing may be factored into your dealer contract. Alabama state law does not require fencing around residential pools, but some municipalities and counties do. These laws evolve, and it’s good to check in with your dealer to understand what pool cover or fencing requirements might be applicable.

Restoration. Heavy construction equipment is required to deliver your fiberglass pool. Dirt has to be removed and hauled away. Decking and other materials must be brought to the site. A “rough grade” might be part of your basic installation project, but a “finish grade” might be what you want to complete the job. Plan ahead as you think about the landscaping of your backyard. It may be a project that you want to quote and budget for separately, or even something you plan out over the next few years.

Electrical. An electrician will need to run wiring for filtration and lights. This may require upgrades or the addition of a separate breaker box to meet the needs of your pool’s operation. Dealers don’t always include electrical in their quotes and may specify that you contract with an electrician.

Dirt Hauling. A backyard pool can require the removal of dirt equivalent to the volume of a one or two-car garage! That’s several truckloads of dirt that needs to be hauled away. Read your contract closely to be clear on how much dirt hauling is included. The proximity of your home to the dump site may also impact your bill.

Does a pool add value to a home in Alabama?

Cool Patio Options For Your Inground Fiberglass Pool

Lots of choices to make your inground fiberglass pool uniquely yours

When you’re first starting to think about a new inground fiberglass swimming pool, you’re probably mostly thinking about the pool itself—will you choose a rectangular design or a freeform? A big pool or a small pool? And if you love soaking up the sun while also cooling your heels, you might be thinking about a fiberglass pool with a tanning ledge or even a beach entry (Patent US 10,358,837 and 10,472,839).

Once you’ve chosen the perfect pool design for your family, it’s time to start thinking about how you’ll finish it all off. What kind of landscaping will you choose to create your ultimate backyard oasis? What color scheme and style of patio furniture will you choose to complement your pool? And, of course, what will that furniture be sitting on? Your pool patio will be the foundation for your outdoor living area, so make sure you choose something you’ll love for years to come.

Most inground pool builders include 3 to 4 feet of patio in their installation quote. This will probably be standard concrete, but some include specialty choices as well. Others may not include any patio in their price and will either recommend a contractor or allow you to choose your own. So, make sure you ask your pool builder what, and how much, pool patio is included in their quote to avoid surprise pool installation costs down the line.

Here are some cool pool patio options to consider:

Standard concrete

Standard concrete is the most common and affordable patio option for your new fiberglass inground pool. A standard concrete patio is an easy job for most contractors. However, if you’re hiring your own contractor, ask if they have experience with pool decks. Pouring a patio around the edge of a fiberglass swimming pool takes some practice and is not for beginners.

If you want to dress up your standard concrete deck, you may add a dramatic visual effect by using a small border, perhaps 10 to 14 inches wide. You can create a border with stamped concrete, pavers, brick or colored concrete, but be sure to have a plan for matching it if you ever need a repair.

Stamped or colored concrete

Concrete has come a long way in recent years. With the addition of colors, your standard gray concrete can now be beige, brick red, slate, or just about any color of your choosing. You can really dress it up with a pattern and texture to resemble traditional patio materials like brick, slate, flagstone, tile, and wood. Flagstone concrete stamping adds a beautiful finishing touch to a roman-shaped pool.

Exposed aggregate

Exposed aggregate creates a unique look and surface by washing away the top layer of cement to expose the underlying aggregate. The finished look is similar to a river bed. This look is the perfect complement to a rustic or natural backyard design, especially with a freeform pool (including a freeform beach entry pool).

Pavers and other stones

Pavers are available in a variety of colors, shapes, textures, and materials. Paver can be mixed and matched and arranged in different patterns to create a unique look. Natural stones such as flagstone, bluestone, slate, and limestone offer a distinctive style to your backyard swimming pool project. Travertine is especially popular because it stays cool and is easy on bare feet around the pool. Like pavers, geometric-shaped stones work best with rectangular pool designs, whereas natural stones will work better with freeforms.

Ask your pool builder

Your pool builder can also provide information for you about what type of patio will best complete your backyard paradise. No matter what type of pool patio you choose, it’s sure to be the perfect foundation for amazing pool parties, festive family gatherings and your personal “get away from it all” retreat for years to come.

The Zero Entry fiberglass pools

Thursday Pools is the creator of the beach entry (or zero entry) fiberglass pool. Grace Beach Entry and Sandal Beach Entry (Patent US 10,358,837 and 10,472,839) are currently available to order, so you can bring the shore to your door with your new fiberglass pool.

Thursday Pools Makes News with Four Trailblazing Fiberglass Pool Innovations

pool innovations
Indiana fiberglass pool manufacturer, Thursday Pools, is relentlessly dedicated to improving the fiberglass pool experience and creating the best fiberglass pools. Thursday Pools is never satisfied with the status quo when it comes to pool innovations. They’re like mad scientists on a mission to create ways to simplify installation, protect pool owners’ investments and offer previously unheard-of fiberglass inground pool experiences. They’re invited to fiberglass pool conferences around the country to speak about their “intent to invent.” And, they’ll soon garner national attention as they’re featured on the television show, “Success Files with Rob Lowe,” a show that highlights trailblazers in every industry.

First of the Trailblazing Pool Innovations:

The Beach Entry (Zero Entry) Fiberglass Pool (Utility Pool Body US Patent No. 10,358,837 Utility Pool System US Patent 10,472, 839)

Thursday Pools introduced the beach entry fiberglass pool in 2018. And their two designs, Grace Beach Entry and Sandal Beach Entry are now available to order. Like the sunken living room, the beach entry feature was previously only available in upscale resorts and custom private home installations. Now, fiberglass pool owners can have the experience of a day at the beach in their own backyards.

“In just a few weeks, we’ll be installing our first one–the freeform Sandal. These customers knew they wanted this pool before we could even order it, and they were willing to wait for it. It will be unlike anything anyone in their neighborhood has ever seen. The beach entry pools allow us to offer something other pool builders can’t. They’re great for older people and for pets, because they’re easy in and out.”David Burton, Burton Pools and Spas in Springdale, Arkansas

Second of the Trailblazing Pool Innovations:

The Lucky 7 Skimmer®

Good pool maintenance is key to protecting the investment in a new fiberglass pool. Skimmers are an important part of keeping a pool clean because they keep debris from clogging the pump and allow water to circulate freely. Until Thursday Pools invented the Lucky 7 Skimmer, pool installers struggled to fit traditional skimmers against the sloped walls of a fiberglass pool. Typically, they used extension collars to get the skimmer to sit flush with the wall, which created a less polished look and didn’t allow the skimmer to function as well as it could. The Lucky 7 Skimmer is the first skimmer designed explicitly for fiberglass pools, and it’s compatible with any fiberglass pool brand.

“We use the Lucky 7 Skimmer on every pool we install. Because these skimmers take less time to install, they save pool buyers money on installation. They work better too, because they sit at the right angle for the slope of a fiberglass pool wall. And they look great—the mounting plate comes out farther and covers all the raw fiberglass.” Doug Thoele, W.E.T. Pools and Spas in Effingham, Illinois

Third of the Trailblazing Pool Innovations:

The Backfill Eliminator®

Built-in tanning ledges are one of the most highly sought-after features in fiberglass pools today. They traditionally presented a challenge for both fiberglass pool owners and installers, as the shallow area underneath the tanning ledge can feel hollow underfoot if it’s not properly backfilled. Thursday Pools solved that issue by creating the Backfill Eliminator, an integrated tanning ledge support structure comprised of an extra thick honeycomb core and support pillars that ensure your built-in tanning ledge will last a lifetime.

“We’re 100 percent committed to Thursday Pools. The fact that they’re ISO 9001 certified means that they have a checks and balances system for maintaining quality that no one else has. I’m having pools shipped from almost 700 miles away. I could save some money on shipping by getting them from somewhere closer. I’m not going to do that. It makes my cost higher, but it’s worth it.” Jason Cherry, Cherry Pools in Broken Arrow Oklahoma

The Gonzalez Family Gets a Goliath

goliath fiberglass pool designMeet the Gonzalez family*: The Gonzalez family lives in a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio called Loveland. Alonzo and his wife Maria own a large home in a beautiful subdivision where they raised five kids. They now have ten grandkids who are the light of their lives. While everyone leads busy lives, Maria still cooks family dinner every Sunday night, and everyone who lives anywhere nearby sets time aside for it as best they can. There’s always something to celebrate, whether it’s a birthday, an anniversary or a great report card. Nothing is more important than spending quality family time together.

The Gonzalez family has decided to get a pool. As the grandkids get older, they’re always looking for something fun to do at Nana and Papa’s house. Maria and Alonzo have a huge yard, and the kids love to run around and play football and tag, but the kids have been hinting at how much they love to swim and how they wish there was a pool they could all enjoy. Maria and Alonzo know that a nice inground pool will keep the kids looking forward to visiting and bringing their friends as they get older.

Here are some factors they’re considering:

  • They want a BIG pool. If they’re getting a pool, they want it to have plenty of room for everyone to be able to get some exercise and play games.
  • They want a pool that’s easy to get in and out of. Their youngest grandchild is two years old and Maria’s mom, who lives nearby, will be using the pool as well. They want a pool with steps that make it easy for their youngest and oldest swimmers (and everyone in between) to enter and exit the pool.
  • They want a pool that’s great for socializing. The Gonzalez household has always been the go-to house for neighborhood parties. Having a pool will make those parties even better. Maria and Alonzo want a pool with lots of spots to sit and visit so their older neighbors have a place to relax when they come by.
  • They want a pool that will be low-maintenance. Maria and Alonzo are busy. They don’t want to spend tons of time on pool maintenance. They want a pool that’s easy to take care of and keep clean so they can spend the maximum amount of time enjoying the pool with their kids and grandkids.
  • They want a pool that will be safe for their whole family. Their yard is fenced in, so they don’t have to worry about neighbor kids getting in the pool unattended. But they don’t want to worry about the kids in their house wandering out to the yard and getting in the pool alone.

The Gonzalez family chose the the Goliath by Thursday Pools.

Here’s why:

  • The Goliath is huge. The Goliath by Thursday Pools comes in three sizes—big, bigger and massive! They chose the largest option, the 16’ x 41’. It has a maximum depth of 6’8” so the deep-end is great for the grown-ups while the shallow-end, at just under 4’ in depth, is a good spot for the younger swimmers to practice their swimming skills near the steps.
  • Wide, non-skid steps. The Goliath offers wide, curving dual corner entry steps that are adjacent to the built-in benches. This makes the Goliath super easy for swimmers of all ages to ease into the pool. Plus, the gel coat finish gives their new inground fiberglass pool a really nice non-skid surface that’s easy on swimsuits and little feet.
  • Ample seating and a courtesy ledge. In addition to the built-in benches by the steps, the Goliath also offers dual, deep-end benches with swim-outs and a courtesy ledge all around the deep-end for plenty of space to socialize and relax.
  • Low-maintenance fiberglass. Maria and Alonzo wanted a fiberglass pool because they like the way fiberglass pools are made. They’re lower maintenance than vinyl and gunite. They never need liner replacements or resurfacing, and they require fewer chemicals to maintain water balance, which means more time to play with the grandkids!
  • Automatic pool safety cover-ready. The Goliath by Thursday Pools is built to be automatic pool safety cover-ready. Automatic pool safety covers offer the ultimate peace of mind for inground pool owners because they keep the pool closed up tight when it’s not in use and require a code to open. The Gonzalez’ love the fact that they’ll never have to worry that their young swimmers could wander into the pool unattended.

The Gonzalez family has their Happily Ever After:

Now, the Gonzalez family has a new Sunday tradition. Sure, they still enjoy one of Maria’s wonderful meals, but they all enjoy a Sunday swim as well. The kids come up with new games to play in the pool all the time, and they’ve made new friends with the neighbor kids too. Nana and Papa’s house is their favorite destination!

The Gonzalez family found their perfect pool, and you can find your dream inground fiberglass pool too! If you’re ready to take the plunge with a new inground fiberglass pool, get an estimate today.

How to Choose the Thursday Pools Design that’s Right for You

pool designYou’re actually doing it. You’re getting an inground pool. You’re past the wishing and dreaming stage. You’ve done your research, set your budget and considered your financing. You know you want a fiberglass pool, because your research has shown that fiberglass is the way to go for durability, overall value low pool maintenance and awesome aesthetics. Your research has also shown that, of all the fiberglass pool manufacturers out there, Thursday Pools is the top of the line for quality and variety of design options. And, because sustainability is important to you, you also like the fact that we hold an ISO 14001 certification for environmental stewardship.

So, now it’s about to get real up in here. It’s time to choose your pool design.

You may be excited, but also kind of unsure. You’re choosing something that’s going to become a part of your house, most likely for as long as you live in it, and beyond. It’s not like choosing a paint color that you can change next year if you get tired of it.

We get it. It’s a big decision. Let’s take a look at some tips that will help you choose the ideal pool design for you and your family.

  1. Choose a size range. Note that we said size range—not size. This is a key distinction, because there’s no one perfectly sized pool for your unique backyard. Thursday Pools has a wide selection of fiberglass pool designs, and many of them come in several sizes to ensure that you’ll have the features you want in the space you have available. Be flexible and keep an open mind.
  2. Consider the grand scheme of things. We’ve said this before, but it bears repeating: You probably don’t want to buy the biggest pool you can fit in your yard. Grab your tape measure and go! Don’t be afraid to go the hardware store and purchase yard paint and flags. This is a great way to start visualizing the space! Of the free space that you determine is available, set aside the space you will need for your patio area and  landscaping. Consider how far from waters edge you want your furniture, grill, dining, etc. And, take into consideration any potential future additions such as a bath house/cabana, playset, or spa. What space is left? That is the space you have for water.
  3. Plot it out. Once you’ve narrowed down your choices (and before you make your final decision,) get your hands on the plot plan or survey of your lot. This will allow you to see easements or setbacks that may limit the amount of space you have to work with. Do you have any underground private or public utilities that you need to avoid? The plot plan will help you identify if the pool shape and size you’ve chosen are possible, or if you need to rethink your choice.
  4. Follow the 90% rule. There is not going to be one pool design that’s perfect for everyone in your family. Don’t be surprised if you’re having a hard time agreeing on one.

So do this: think about who will be enjoying the pool 90 percent of the time. Be realistic about who’s going to use the pool most and how they’re most likely to use it. Here are some tips to help you prioritize the features that are most important to your family and best fit everyone’s unique needs.

    • Are you mostly active pool goers? Do you plan to use your pool for daily exercise or sports? If so, then you want to look for a design that has an open swim lane or an appropriate depth for volleyball. If so, then you may want to look at Thursday Pools designs, like the Goliath, Monolith, Lil Bob, Cathedral or Spirit.
    • Are you mostly laid back pool goers? Do the sun worshippers in your family want to be able to soak up the sun on the weekends? If so, consider a Thursday Pools design with a built-in tanning ledge or sun shelf, like the Aspen, Lil Bob LX, Wellspring, Cathedral LX, Pearl or Sun Day.
    • Is easy entrance and exit a priority? If you have very young swimmers or older family members who need to be able to sit safely in a shallow area or be able to ease in and out of the pool, a zero entry (or beach entry) fiberglass pool, such as the Grace Beach Entry or Sandal Beach Entry design might be a great choice for you (Patent US 10,358,837 and 10,472,839). Beach entry pools also provide a fabulous spot for themed pool parties!
  1. Listen to the pros. Sure, no one’s backyard is exactly like yours. However, your local, trusted Thursday Pools dealer has seen hundreds of backyards that are probably pretty similar to yours. They’ve helped many other homeowners make the best choice for them, and they can help you avoid costly mistakes in your planning. They can put together an overall design for your pool project that works with the design of your home, your available space and, of course, your budget.

Ask the General: What Fiberglass Pool Shape Should I Choose for a Natural Look?

fiberglass pool shapesDear General

We have started saving for a pool. I know for sure I want an inground pool, and we’re pretty set on a fiberglass pool, but I’ve been going in circles with all the different designs available. I love my gardens and landscaping, and I want something that will not only blend in but enhance the look of our backyard. What fiberglass pool shapes would look most natural?

Signed

Shapeless in Schaumberg

Dear Shapeless

Picking fiberglass pool shapes depend on the preferences of the customer. I have found that customers with similar wants and needs often choose a non-diving, “free-formed shaped” pool. For maximum aesthetic value, you’ll want to keep your inground pool in proportion to the size of your yard and in harmony with your landscaping, the style of your house and your family’s personality. Here are some things to consider to help you find the perfect fiberglass pool shape for your family:

Consult Your Pool Builder

First of all, once you’ve chosen a pool builder that you want to work with, trust their experience. You may already have started saving pictures from all over the internet, and you have most likely spent some time envisioning how those pools will look in your yard. But when you meet with the designer from the pool company, they might suggest something completely different.

While they should listen to your ideas and vision and understand your priorities for how you plan to use your pool, don’t dismiss their recommendations too quickly.  They often have years of experience designing pool projects. They’ve seen hundreds of backyards, and they know what works—and what doesn’t—so take advantage of their knowledge (and other people’s pool planning mistakes). Work together to brainstorm ideas and decide on the perfect pool for you.

Consider All the Great Fiberglass Pool Shapes

You mentioned that you’re leaning towards fiberglass. I think that’s a great choice. I would tell my customers that they could also get a vinyl liner or gunite (concrete) pool with similar features. Then, I would take some time and explain some of the pluses and minuses of custom building a pool, especially the costs involved. And in most cases, we would circle back around to the fiberglass pool. There are so many great fiberglass pool designs available that you’re sure to find fiberglass pool shapes that work perfectly with your yard for a much lower upfront investment and overall lower pool maintenance costs down the road.

Here are a couple of my favorite fiberglass pool shapes and designs from one of my favorite pool manufacturersThursday Pools:

  • Wellspring. One fiberglass pool shapesof my favorite free form fiberglass pool designs is the Wellspring. It comes in two sizes, so it will likely fit nicely in your yard. The eight-foot round,  built-in tanning ledge is a great spot for lounging and child’s play while the wrap-around benches give you ample room to socialize.
  • Sun Day. This pool has that great curvy feel too without the tanning ledge. However, the 12-inch deep sun shelf and wrap around benches provide plenty of room for lounging, and the large open swim area allows for water activities.
  • Pearl. This is a little gem of a pool with a beautiful shell shape. At just 25’ long, Pearl won’t take up too much green space. The 12-inch deep tanning ledge can double as a wading pool for young swimmers. And the wrap around bench will provide plenty of space to entertain and socialize in the pool.
  • Titus. Titus is slightly less curvy and a bit more symmetrical. It’s great for play and exercise; its wrap-around, elongated benches provide a great spot to relax and entertain.
  • Sandal Beach Entry. If you really want a back-to-nature experience with your pool, you might look into one of these brand new beach entry fiberglass pool shapes (Patent US 10,358,837 and 10,472,839). This pool is designed a lot like the Sun Day. However, with a zero entry, you can wade right in, just like you do at the beach.

Customize with Add-On Features and Accessories

Add-on features are a great way to make any pool uniquely yours. Here are a few you might consider:

  • Water features. You can’t get much more natural than the sound of water. Spillovers, waterfalls, step jets, bubblers and water spouts are some ways you can add to the natural ambiance of your new backyard oasis. You may also opt for a spa or wading pool to add an element of luxury.
  • LED lighting. Ask your pool builder about available lighting packages. LED lighting is especially beautiful for night-time swimming or gazing at the pool.
  • Custom concrete decking. No matter what fiberglass pool shape you choose, you can really jazz up and customize the area around your pool with contoured sculpted concrete decking. Add in options like a two-tone stamped finish to make it really unique.

The good news is this: you’re gonna have so much fun with your family in your new pool that this time of wondering and worrying will seem like a distant memory this time next year. You’ll look out your window and won’t even be able to remember what your yard looked like before your awesome new pool. Hope this helped!

The Langdons Get a Lil Bob | Thursday Pools

thursday pools lil bob

Meet the Langdons:

Steve and Maya Langdon live in, Oak Park, Illinois, a Chicago suburb. Steve is a brand manager for a well-known online outdoor clothing retailer, and Maya is a yoga instructor. Steve and Maya both adore outdoor adventure, and fitness is very important to them. Their daughter Ellie is almost two years old. Ellie also loves adventure–she’s always up for a jaunt in her stroller, and there’s nothing she loves more than being out in the sunshine. It’s really important to Steve and Maya to teach Ellie about the joys of being playful and feeling healthy and strong.

The Langdons have decided to get a pool.

Steve and Maya are both big on research. When they first started thinking about getting a pool, they were worried that their backyard wasn’t big enough to accommodate a pool while leaving enough room for some grass for Ellie to play in. However, they soon discovered that there are several great pool designs for smaller yards that will allow them to have a fabulous inground pool and still have ample space for a patio and yard. And because they want a low maintenance pool that will give them the best resale value for their house, they’re going with a fiberglass pool over vinyl. Lastly, cost is a factor. They’ll need to finance their new pool, and they know that a smaller pool will require a smaller budget. Now, they just need to choose the best small fiberglass pool design for them.

Here are some some factors they’re considering:

  • They’re very social. They love to have friends over, and they’re envisioning lots of people hanging out in the pool.
  • Safety is crucial! They don’t ever want to have to worry that Ellie could wander into the pool unattended, so having a pool that is automatic safety cover-ready is non-negotiable.
  • A spot for Ellie. The pool needs to have a shallow area for Ellie to hang out while she learns to swim.
  • No slips and falls. They don’t want anyone to slip getting in and out of the pool, so they don’t want the steps or other surfaces to be slippery.
  • A place to play. They’d like a uniform depth for a competitive water game like basketball or volleyball.

The Langdons choose the Lil Bob by Thursday Pools.

thursday pools lil bob

Here’s why:

  • The perfect size. The Lil Bob has an overall size of 13.5’ x 27.5’, which packs a ton of swimming fun into the space they have available, while leaving room for furniture, landscaping and some green space for Ellie to play.
  • Lots of seating. The elongated, wraparound benches create a wonderful conversation area for friends and family.
  • Safety cover-ready. The Lil Bob is auto-cover ready, giving them both ease of maintenance and peace of mind.
  • Easy in and out. The full-length entry steps make for easy entrance and exit from the pool and give Ellie a perfect perch for splashing and learning to safely enjoy the water.
  • Non-skid surface. The non-skid surface on floor, benches and steps of the Lil Bob means safety and comfort for swimmers of all ages.
  • Fun-friendly depth. The flat-bottom 4’6” depth makes it ideal for entertaining and water fun.

The Langdons have their Happily Ever After with their Thursday Pools Lil Bob:

Now, the Langdons love their small backyard. Where there was once just a patch of grass to mow, there’s now a wonderful swimming pool oasis that’s ready to play any time they are. (Which is pretty much all the time.) Ellie loves the water, and “pool” is now her most spoken word! Maya and Steve are having a blast coming up with pool-themed party ideas, and their friends are always ready for the next weekend fiesta. Life is good indeed.

The Langdons found their perfect pool, and you can too, no matter the size of your yard. If you’re ready to start making a lifetime of memories in a new inground fiberglass pool, get an estimate today.
